Two years ago, we were invited to a bi-annual retreat with Shalom Missions Communities.   This weekend, our house attended our 2nd SMC gathering, hosted by Reba Place Fellowship in Evanston, IL.  SMC is a collection of intentional communities, who in addition to sharing a common anabaptist heritage, also share common practices and life in the same way that our house strives to.  Being a younger community (we turn 5 years old in December) we have found the relationships with SMC to be instrumental in our development and growth as a community.  In addition to having visited several of these communities, we have received some of them into our home as guests.  We have found incredible joy in the shared rhythms of these communities, not just in the sharing of stories and events, but in the building up of gifts and talents that we hope to bring back to our own common life.  The theme of the weekend was “stories of God’s faithfulness”.  We expressed and encountered faithfulness through countless forms of art — painting, music, dance, poetry, story-telling and creative writing, and countless other conversations.

Over the coming weeks, I believe that some of these experiences and stories will enter into some of the writings of this blog.  We hope it will provide a window into our life as we seek to share the faithfulness of God, which we encounter daily.
